Ending of Alchemist

The metaphorical treasure that the boy finds in the end is that in order to realize what you have, you need to experience something more. The boy could have been a simple shepherd and been content, but he would have never truly realized the full extent and possibilities of his life without having gone through the trials that he underwent.

I took his knowledge of the language of the world to mean that he learned that all things in this world are connected, somehow. That, too, was a treasure.

But as for the physical treasure? It was waiting for him all along in the abandoned church at the beginning, meaning that the treasure was there all along. He only needed to know how to look for it.

Alchemist (cont.)

Sleeping under the stars one night with his flock he has a dream that a child transports him to the Egyptian Pyramids and tells him he’ll find a buried treasure there. Santiago is willing to take a chance and decides to pay a Gypsy in the next town to interpret his dream. She tells him that his dream is in the language of the world, and if he goes to the Pyramids he’ll find a great treasure there. Santiago is irritated and decides he’s not going to believe in dreams anymore. He didn’t need to waste his time on the Gypsy with a lousy interpretation. Later that day he’s in town reading and trying to forget he even had a dream when an old man begins to speak with him. Santiago tries to ignore him but the man just won’t let up. Finally the man tells him that if Santiago gives him 1/10 of his sheep, he’ll tell him how to find the hidden treasure. Stay tuned for more!

CHAPTER 1

Santiago guides his flock throughout the fields of Andalusia. He finds an old abandoned church and churchyard where he and his flock can spend the night. He sleeps on the stone floor using his book as a pillow. He anticipates his approach the Andalusian village where, one year prior, he met a merchant's daughter. Santiago and his flock approach the town; he has been herding this flock for two years. He often reflects about what he has learned from his sheep and what they have learned from him. He observes that the sheep depend fully on him to lead them to food and water. Not having to forage food for themselves, they have forgotten their instincts.
So I chose to read “The alchemist”. I heard it’s an awesome book, so I’m excited to read it. It’s not that long, it’s about 150 pages or so, so it won’t take forever to finish. It’s basically about a young Sheppard who goes on a journey trying to find out his own personal legend. Through a bunch of life experiences and omens that he encounters on his expedition he realizes what his true personal legend is.

IM FINISHED!!!

I'm finally done with Twilight! Everyone is happy again; Bella turns out in the hospital because she is in very bad conditions. Her mother meets Edward, and can already see in their eyes that they are in love. Bella gets a little upset, because she wants to be a vampire, but Edward would never put her in that position. The story basically ends with Bella in the hospital room with Edward, and he explains some things that were left unsaid throughout the book. It was pretty good, I want to read “moonlight”, but it will take too long, so you will find out my next book in the next blog. Stay tuned

Friday, November 6, 2009

The Cullen’s eventually lose track of the bad vampire, and he’s not too far from Bella. He actually relocated himself to Bella’s home town, exactly where she was located. He had called Alice’s phone pretending to be Bella’s mother. He conspicuously tells her that he has her mother captive, and the only way to prevent her from dying is to meet him in Bella’s old dance studio. Bella being so ignorant, falls into his trap, escapes from the hold of Jasper and Alice, and meets up with the bad vampire. When she walks in, we find out that the vampire really did not have her mom captive; he was just playing an old tape recording of her voice. The vampire then reveals the truth about the secret Alice has been keeping, of how she turned into a vampire. Bella thereafter gets bitten by the vampire, and thrown against the room, so she’s practically dying, but Edward comes and saves the day. The only thing he can do is suck the venom out of her, if not she would turn into a vampire. So he does, and even though it was very tempting for him to just continue to suck her blood and kill her, he doesn’t, which showed a trustworthy and lovable Edward

ALMOST DONE

I will now summarize about 2-3 chapters in 1 blog post. Bella is being chased by this bad vampire. He wants to hunt her down and kill her, and he’s known to never give up. It states in the book that he likes challenging himself with his human victims, and he’s not going to surrender until she is dead. So of course Edward has to be over protective, he says she has to leave town as soon as possible to get away, while he plans to kill him. Bella goes home very quick to get a few bags, exactly 15 minutes was she allowed, she was forced to tell her father that she hated Forks and wanted to go back home that exact night. Although he does not know what is going on, he lets her go. Bella stays in a hotel with Jasper and Alice, while Edward and his dad Carlisle lead the “tracker” away from Bella

UPDATE 2

Edward then insists that Bella tell her dad that they are in a relationship/ that he is her boyfriend. She is frightened; she does not know how to approach her dad about the situation. Over dinner the same night she met the Cullen’s, she tells her dad about Edward. At first he is a little agitated, he thinks Edward is one of the older siblings, and says he is too mature for her, however, she explains that he is the younger one. Edward comes to pick Bella up to go play baseball with her family. And one more thing, Edward tells Bella some dangerous people are coming to town, and that he needs to severely protect her, as in all day all night!

UPDATE

I am still reading this book, its taking me decades to finish; I have about 100 pages left. So what’s happening? From what I remember Bella has finally met the Cullen’s. We find out about their history, and how they all became vampires. The chapters also revealed how Edwards “father” started the tradition to not eat humans, and how he came about passing that same theory to his family. Edward tells Bella that he was not always the way he is now, when he became a vampire, he did not like eating animals, he liked humans. Bella doesn’t really mind, she is in “love” with Edward, and apparently doesn’t care what he has done or what he can do.

READING...hmmnn?

Now to answer the blog question, I usually do read outside of class, however, at a slower pace. I’ve had to read every little bit that I can in order to finish this book. I don’t mind reading; I love reading, so yes I will continue to read on a regular basis, even after this semester is over. Reading is like a movie, it is very entertaining. You can learn so much from reading and like our professor said, it makes your writing better. The more you read and write the better and faster you get. Although that doesn’t necessarily take any effect on my writing skills now, perhaps one day it does.

GOOD PART

Bella and Edward are alone in the woods. He tells her that he has been going every night to see her sleep. He knows she loves him, she knows he loves her. This is the first time that Edward experiences love; he states that he had read about it in magazines, but that he never felt the real thing. He talks about him never experiencing jealousy until she came into his life. Bella is the first human to see him in broad sunlight, his skin turns very sparkly. They finally kiss, and Edward is able to control himself, he says the more he sees her, the less tempted he is to kill her. He explains his behavior when they first met, as to why he was being a jerk. We find out that he was born in 1901 as a human; however, his “dad” saved him turning him into this vampire, because he was very ill. A lot happens between these couple of chapters.

HALF WAY DONE

Bella and Edward are definitely hitting it off; he picks her up and drops her off from school every day. Charlie, her dad, still knows nothing about the two, however, from what I have noticed keeps encouraging her to ask boys out to the dance. Edward has been bombarding Bella with questions, about her past life, her dreams, favorite music, favorite color, and everything you can imagine. His family is not really fond of Bella, they don’t know why Edward is so into her, and they somewhat do not encourage the relationship. Right now I am on page 265, barely half way through the book, hopefully I finish in time to read two more books....

Friday, October 9, 2009

The next morning, Edward decides to pick Bella up at her house and take her to school. She contentedly hops in his car, and of course is startled by his driving. Jessica, her good friend, has been waiting all night to hear about her status with Edward, especially after seeing them walk into school together. She sees Bella and cannot hide the fact that she wants to know the news; Edward obviously knowing this because he can read Jessica’s mind. Therefore, he asks Bella what she is going to tell Jessica, Bella is left dumbfounded, she knows what she feels, but does not want to express it yet. Later on in class, Bella tells Jessica how she feels, but Edward (who listened in on the conversation) is not that content with the results. As they head down to the cafeteria, Bella feels as if she is the center of attention, no one has ever been that close to Edward before, and that’s where I finished reading to write this blog, stay tuned.

Update

Now where do I start? Bella’s high school is having a prom. Although Bella does not want to attend the prom, she promises to go dress shopping with her friends, Jessica and Angela. Right after school, on a sunny afternoon, the 3 girls go down Port Angeles, invading all stores in search for a dress. Bella cannot keep her mind off Edward the whole entire time. Bella after a bit tells her two friends that she wants to find a book store, and they eventually separate. She goes on and wonders in this unknown neighborhood, and finds herself being followed by a group of men. She is a little scared; however, ready to kick someone in the groin. While the men approach her, Edward comes and saves the day. He later reveals that he had in fact followed her to Port Angeles, because he has been stalking her this whole time. Instead of her reacting normally, by panicking, she feels good. He tells her over dinner that he can read the minds of people, just not hers, and that he is a vampire, a “non-human” blood sucking vampire, but that he can at any moment become a monster, and when he’s hungry, tempts the blood of humans, especially when alone with Bella.

My Opinion

Right now I am not really liking Bella, she is kind of irritating me. This to me is not a sweet love story; it’s more of an obsession. I find it weird how the only thing she does all day is think about Edward. Is there really that much time on her hands? When she was told that he was a vampire, she wasn’t even surprised. Is it that normal in her town to have vampires, because it did not seem to bother her at all.

Chapter 7

So far in the book Bella is invited to a nearby beach with her friends from school. Bella flirts with a boy named Jacob Black so she can uncover Edward's true identity. Thrilled by her attention, Jacob tells Bella a legend about werewolves and vampires. According to the legend, werewolves are the one true enemy of vampires and the Cullens are a family of vampires who, unlike most of their kind, abstain from drinking human blood. That's the only reason why the werewolves of La Push have allowed them to live in Forks. Jacob thinks the legend is nonsense but Bella isn't so sure. When Bella returns to her house that night, she cannot fall asleep; she has a nightmare about what they had told her earlier in the day. She gets up from her bed, takes a shower, and hops onto the internet to search some more information about Edward and his family. After not finding any information, she heads into the woods to relieve some stress. There she reveals to us that she is not frightened of Edward, she states she is frightened FOR Edward.

Me Reading?

So here I am, supposedly writing a blog that states where I am in the book, and how exciting everything is! But to tell you the truth I haven’t picked up the book since 2 blogs ago! I definitely need to catch up. By next blog I promise myself to have read 5 chapters (hopefully), well that’s all I have for today!

Time Management

Finding time to read this book is not as easy as I thought. Not going to lie, I love reading books, but not when I have to do it under a certain period of time, it usually takes me forever to finish! On top of all the other studying, and homework assignments that have to be completed, I work a full-time job so it's truly difficult to find time to read. Right after school, I come to work, and it’s not a job where there is a lot of time to sit down and read, it's one of those jobs where you actually have to WORK. Nevertheless, I do somehow find time to read; perhaps over the weekends, on my breaks, lunch, or whatever spare time I may have during the day. I’m not sure why exactly I chose this huge book to read, truthfully, I don’t think I’m going to finish it on time, but I will keep you guys posted (literally). Stay tuned!

Where am I so far?

So as you all know I am currently reading "Twilight". Right now I find myself on page 104 and slowly but surely finishing the book. It is very interesting, not that I'm in love with it yet, however, it's getting there. Bella whom has moved to a small town named Forks with her father, fearfully starts at the local high school . While at school she very quickly lays eyes on Edward, and as she states, "he was absolutely beautiful”. At first Edward is not that receptive towards Bella, he constantly ignores her, and gives her “non-welcoming” stares. He then saves her life, when Tyler, a classmate, almost runs into her with his car. Nothing really happens to her, other than her feelings for Edward grow, and she wants to know what secret he is hiding. Right now, she has basically fainted in her biology class, because she becomes very weary around blood, and Edward is dropping her off at her house, after he bribed the nurse into excusing her from class.

Twilight

The first book that I chose to read this semester was "Twilight" written by Stephanie Meyer. There is only reason why I chose to read this book, and that is, I am the only woman on the face of this earth who has not read the book. I was actually speaking to a fellow classmate in sociology, and she had mentioned that she read "twilight", not once, but four times! Every girl that has read the book has fallen in love with it, so now im trying to see what all the hype is about. So far I am really enjoying it, however, I must admit I have already watched the movie, therefore, I already know the series of events that occur, and it's not as surprising to me as it should be. It is not short at all, but it is a smooth and easy read. That's basically where I stand, thanks for reading, if you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to let me know :)

Hello my name is Adrianne Rios, I am 18 years old, and I currently attend Bergen County Community College. I'm not exactly sure what to write, especially if its something about myself however for starters, I am a full-time employee for AT&T Mobility. I am not too crazy about the job, but you take what you can get. I love to laugh, so if you think you can make me laugh, please let me know. I'm not really into all that music on the radio, I enjoy 80's freestyle, R&B from the 90's, and genres you wouldn't even imagine. Well I guess thats it for my first blog, please do not be too anxious and impatient, there will be more to come ;D
